Variety in design is not dictated by the number of colors alone.
Differences in texture, height, shape and material all come together to
create a unique style for every wedding.
The flowers, white and green orchids
and white rosal, also known as
gardenia, aside from adding freshness
also lends a sweet natural fragrance
to perfume your event.
All these immaculate elements on crisp
white linen is a reflection of Sandoval’s
design aesthetic: clean, timeless
and elegant. “It’s not screaming
for attention instead it has a quiet
elegance. After all, Filipinos are known
for being conservative and for valuing
purity.”
Showcasing Filipino
He describes his Modern Filipiniana
design as a sophisticated style with
a myriad of conversation pieces,
items that rouses the interest of those
around, literally, starting conversation.
“I have put on display, not only my
trademark style, but more important,
our local materials whether to
foreigners or to the Filipino guests.”
For the flowers he recommended as
an alternative, our national flower,
sampaguita, and even the widely
available bougainvillea, both of
which has the characteristic softness
that complements the theme. He
also adds mums, chrysanthemum, and
paper roses to the list.
He suggests rattan, or other native
material, for the vase’s accent and
an option for the material of the
candleholder.
“I will not create a design or use
materials that 10, 20 years from now
looks out-of-place. My aspiration is,
when the kids see the wedding style
of their parents, that they will feel
the same admiration. That is why
even with thematic weddings, I don’t
go overboard or exaggerate. It is
important that a themed wedding,
whatever the theme is, still looks like a
wedding.”
His advice to other budding event
stylists, “When dealing with clients,
always listen to them. Listen to what
they want. Do not inject what you
want. For my part, I believe there is no
such thing as a small or big wedding.
It’s all the same important event. The
number one rule is: make your clients
happy.”
White
is
one of the most
versatile hues with
a surprising number of
shades – each evoking a
different mood.
