ROLE PLAY. WHO ARE YOU? RESTRICTING THROUGH PREJUDICE AND DISCRIMINATION Before handing in one role to each student: - Explain the game: Push tables and chairs aside, it’s a movement role play. Divide the room in two using colored adhesive tape on the floor. Each student gets a role. The students should have some minutes to interiorize the role. The teacher will ask yes/no questions. After every question students position themselves by the tape on the floor if their answer is YES. If it is NO they stay away from the tape. The students write down the results so at the end they try to uncover the role that the other students have been given. They do so using their results sheet. Discussion/debate comes up naturally. - Hand in the questions. There are two versions according to the levels of the class. Make sure they understand these are yes/no questions and that they understand the meaning. Students should come up with new questions (i.e. can you be elected head of state? Is marriage obligatory in your country? Can you be open about your sexual orientation? Do you have a regular income? Can you afford healthy food?....) - Hand in the roles to the students. - Start asking. This is an original role play in German (page28 of the pdf): http://www.internationale-wochen-gegen-rassismus.de/wpcontent/uploads/Unterrichtsmaterialien_Homepage.pdf
