Major Hazard Installations (MHI) ______________________________________________________________ As of 1 January 2014 • • All facilities operating MHIs must determine their hazard classes and register them under a certain hazard class The requirement to classify and register MHIs, applies to most industrial facilities, as they apply to facilities handling, storing or using substances which are commonly used in industrial and manufacturing processes ©2014 Enhesa. All rights reserved Examples: Class I: Facilities handling, using, storing or manufacturing flammable or combustible gases in quantities over 2000 tons OR those using flammable liquids in technological processes in quantities over 2000 tons Class IV: Facilities handling, using storing or manufacturing environmentally hazardous substances in quantities between 20 and 1 tons Facilities must develop or obtain certain documents, depending on the hazard class of MHIs they operate, such as the “safety declaration (for class I-II MHIs handling hazardous substances) Eastern Europe Regulatory Update 37
