REGULAR ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Age: 17½- 32 *
( Civilian candidates must enter Recruit Training Squadron at RAF Halton before reaching their 33rd birthday). Enlisted Aviators on Profession Transfer may add up to 2 years on the above age limits.
Qualifications
WSOp’ s need a minimum of 2 GCSEs( or acceptable equivalents inc Functional Skills L2) at Grade C / 4 or above, in English Language and Mathematics or 2 Scottish National 5( Grades A – C) in English Language and Mathematics.
WSOp( SIG) need a minimum of 3 GCSEs( or acceptable equivalents inc Functional Skills L2) at Grade C / 4 or above, in English Language, Mathematics and a modern Foreign Language or 3 Scottish National 5( Grades A – C) in English Language, Mathematics and a modern Foreign Language. The Scottish National 5 Application of Mathematics( AoM)( Grade A-C) is also accepted.
For academic qualification requirements for currently serving aviators please refer to AP3393, Volume 1, Chapter 2, Section 2- Internal Commissioning Scheme( noting that the minimum GCSE Mathematics Grade for WSOp is C / 4 with effect from Aug 17.
Residency
WSOp and WSOp( SIG): Whether or not you were born in the United Kingdom, you should normally have resided there for the 10 years immediately preceding your application, but candidates with a minimum of 7 years may be considered. If you have resided abroad for a period within this timeframe, dependant on the circumstances you may still be eligible on a case by case basis.
Nationality
WSOp: You must be a citizen of the United Kingdom, or holder of dual UK / other nationality.
WSOp( SIG): You must be a citizen of the United Kingdom since birth( not naturalised) and must never have held any other nationality or citizenship( including joint nationality) with the exception of dual British Irish citizenship. Immediate family must be British citizens / nationals.
