As a little, horse crazy girl growing up, I read anything to do with a horse or pony. One of the books that stood out to me was "Misty of Chincoteague" by Marquerite Henry. I loved reading about the Pony Penning Days and the Wild Pony Swim. As I grew older I realized Misty's story was fiction, but that the Pony Penning Days was very real. I remember begging my parents to take me, but it never worked out so I could go. That didn't stop me from wanting to learn more about the event and the wild ponies. Finally, as a grown woman, I got the chance to go and I jumped at it.
