The first annual Sport and Trail Games was an incredible opportunity to try new equine sports, learn new things, meet new friends, or enjoy friendly competitions both on the trail and in the arena. For many it was a time of "firsts". The first time to shoot an arrow, the first time to hit a bullseye, the first time in a working equitation arena, the first time practicing dressage maneuvers. For others, it was the first time to compete on the trail or perform going over obstacles. Many of the participants were avid competitive trail riders, and enjoyed working toward ongoing personal goals. It was an atmosphere of fun, support, camaraderie and adventure.
Instruction was provided by mentors among the highest caliber in their respective sports, including mounted archery, working equitation and competitive trail and arena obstacles. From Arizona, three mounted archers graced the region with introductions and lessons in the sport, including Mounted Archery Association of the America's president Diana Troyk from Scottsdale, Joey Ogburn, also from Scottsdale and B.J. Smith of Cave Creek. Joining the event from Eugene, Oregon was Julie Alonzo, president of WE United, who conducted working equitation clinics each day of the event.
