We charged a minimal registration fee for the ride, sold BCHIA t-shirts, gave away door prizes, gained some new members and even had a large sum donated to our chapter! With the money raised from this event we plan to donate gravel for a few entry driveways to parking this summer and help wherever else they have a need.

In October we also hosted a Meet & Greet at a small park in NW Iowa called Hillview Recreation Area. This small county park had recently acquired 300 additional acres as an expansion. After initial discussions on what needs they had for trails in this new addition BCHIA was welcomed by the land manager as a resource for help in developing more trails as well as for input on the potential for an equestrian campground in the future. This day started out cold and windy but we did manage to lure approximately 23 riders to this small park, The day turned out to be warm and sunny later in the afternoon so most of the riders stayed for the meeting with the land manager and enjoyed the treats brought by our members. For many that joined the event this day it was a first time at this park. It was great to showcase another set of trails that are open to Equine use.

Hillview Park is a beautiful little park for a relaxing ride, and we’re hoping to make it even more so with added trails and a campground. We’re excited for the riding season to be upon us and can’t wait to get started with trail projects in parks throughout Iowa.
