or the 31st year, Rocky Mountain Horse lovers from all over the world will gather for the North American Farm Supply Rocky Mountain International Grand Championship Horse Show. Owners, trainers, exhibitors, and enthusiasts will celebrate this cherished breed at the Kentucky Horse Park September 5-7. Many RMH fans come to this event whether they show or not. They come for fellowship, excitement, shopping, special events, demonstrations, to share their passion for the RMH, and to celebrate one of the world’s favorite gaited horses - the Rocky Mountain Horse. Whether spectators’ passion is for trail riding, endurance, dressage, competitive trail, western, or showing on the rail, there will be exciting displays of horsemanship. Participants will all be “Celebrating the Legacy” which will not only include the history of the Rocky Mountain Horse but its future as well.
The International is not only a great way to promote the breed but, it is also a place where people make connections, make decisions about breeding, look for the first Rocky of their own, or to find another one to add to their collection. There will be a variety of events happening at the show: obstacle competitions, costume contests, pole bending, water glass classes, the “Pink” class (benefit for breast cancer research), Ride-A-Rocky, and demonstrations such as Cowboy Mounted Shooting, Sidesaddle, Western Dressage, and Driving. There will be a silent auction for everything from stallion services to works of art. On Saturday, there will be a Parade of Stallions and a Parade of Past Champions. New this year will be a Parade that will honor the unique colors and modifiers of the Rocky Horse.
It all begins Wednesday, September 4th with an annual membership meeting. On Thursday, conformation classes will begin at 9:00 a.m. and under saddle classes will be held in the afternoon. Friday will be “Youth Day” where activities focus on RMH youth. Saturday afternoon will be demos, the parades, and the Grand Championship classes.
The International provides opportunity for all RMH riders. There are classes for everyone from the youth to beginner novice competitors and on to the professional classes. Exhibitors can demonstrate their horses’ versatility and skill in classes that count toward special awards. It is always exciting to see who will take home the most prestigious award of all, The Sam Tuttle, given after completion the last class.
Whether you are an exhibitor or just a lover of the horse, this show brings together a mixture of fun times. Mark your calendar now. Make plans to come to the 2019 North American Farm Supply International Grand Championships and to enjoy the beautiful Rocky Mountain Horse!
