Counting Blessings Along the Trail

This year I achieved many of my goals and I am looking forward to the new year with anticipation hoping to reach more short-term and long-term Horsemanship goals. I am blessed to be able to work with horses every day of my life. I don't get a day off, but no one should feel sorry for me! I have a purpose, a passion, and every day is filled with joy and adventure.

I've helped wild Mustangs learn a new freedom in a domestic setting. I've started young horses hoping to give them a solid life after graduation. I've helped riders overcome fear, learn new skills, and find partnership with their horses. I've seen the smiles and steady progress of young people with disabilities overcoming so many obstacles on horseback and in hand. I've shared the joy and laughter of horse life with my grandchildren yet another year.

To my family and friends, my faithful followers on Facebook and Instagram, I thank you for your support! You have joined me on this incredible journey that I live every day. I start in the morning thinking of how I can best help the next horse and horse lover. I think of ways to get both horse and human to understand the goal and the reason why we do the things we do, to help the horse help us.

THEY WILL INHERIT THE ARENA

I think often of the next generation. Of the young people who are just getting started on their Horsemanship Journey. They will inherit the arena. Safe ethical and effective horse trainers and competitors and general horse enthusiasts need to employ Horse Behavior and Psychology versus fear and force. Every horse is worth a better deal, and every rider deserves to have the knowledge they need to easily obtain their dreams and goals.

The world can seem an unstable place at times. As a young person, there were times I hugged my horse's neck for comfort. These magnificent animals have so much to give whether it's therapy, companionship, show ring thrills, or a quiet little trail ride in the woods. For years I enjoyed horses for all these reasons, but my enjoyment has expanded tenfold since I learned how to make better connection with horses and people!

I received thank you notes from two young students today. They said I helped them get better trust and connection with their horses. They are accomplished riders who do Eventing. One of the horses would fight her request and win the argument, frustrating the young girl. Once I showed her how to take away the fight and show him the goal, things improved for all to see.

Next year will be full of more adventures! As 2018 draws to a close, I look forward to meeting new people, young and old, their beautiful horses, planning more educational events and demos, spreading the word of good Horsemanship, helping horse rescues and therapy groups, training volunteers and staff. In 2019, I will be teaching at the famous Parelli Natural Horsemanship Campus in Ocala, Florida, the way to achieve unity with your horse in competitive obstacle trail!

The next generation will inherit the arena, but until then, I have plenty of work to do. Thank you, We Ride Magazine Subscribers for coming along for the ride!
