WE-BE Magazine Interview with Poison Corn | Page 2
Poison Corn is a punk rock local Chilliwack band. They are dedicated to music and
are pursuing their musical dreams. They aren’t just another mainstream band. The
music they create comes from their passionate feelings about critical topics that
impact our world; they chose to express their insights and thoughts through song and
sound.
!
WE-BE: What are your names and the instruments you play?
!
Zakk Davis: I am the lead guitarist and vocalist. Deon Gallant is a vocalist also, and
plays bass and rhythm guitar. Blake Pinder plays guitar and bass, and is a vocalist.
Anthony Fehr is on the drums.
!
WE-BE: What inspired you to start/become part of a band?
!
Deon: My dad got me into music. Zakk’s dad got him into music as well.
!
Zakk: It has always been something I was interested in. Even in middle school I was
always jamming out with friends, and being part of a successful band has always
been a dream of mine.
!
WE-BE: What is the message you hope to send through your music?
!
Poison Corn: We want to put our audience in our position, and because of that we
write quite straightforward music to get our point across. We write songs about
environmental issues, toxins in food products, GMO’s, conspiracy theories, our antigovernment views, and of course--girls. We want people to be motivated to research
the world’s current issues, so we write songs about our views to encourage people to
care.
!
WE-BE: Why did you pick the name ‘Poison Corn’?
Poison Corn: We actually were writing a song about GMO’s and the toxins farmers
put in food, and how it actually is a form of poison. We called the song ‘Poison
Corn’, and we liked it so much, because the name shows how we are
environmentalists, that we decided to name the band ‘Poison Corn’.
!
WE-BE: Where do you see your band in 5 years?
!
Poison Corn: Well, we hope to get more publicity, this summer we are planning on
going on tour. We are organizing another fundraiser for mental illness and we are
currently working on a 6-song EP.
!
WE-BE: How much time do you practice as a band?
!
Poison Corn: Usually we practice two times a week, on average a total of six hours.
