ANABEL
Hello! My name is Anabel Fielding and I was born on Monday, December 16th, 2002 at around midnight. I was born in Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital on one of the top floors. That night it had been raining and the next morning my parents looked outside the hospital window and there was a beautiful double rainbow in the sky. From that day forward my parents called me their lucky charm because in that same year my mom became a Nurse and my family bought a house in San Francisco, California. I was named ‘Anabel’ because the name came from my great grandmother; her name had been engraved on silverware that had been kept in my grandparent’s house for many years. My middle name is ‘Audreylaura’, which is also very unique because it is a combination of both of my grandmother’s names. My parents Sam and Jaki Fielding met during the 1995 annual Audubon Christmas Bird count in the Lancetilla botanical gardens. At the time, my father Sam was a Peace Corps volunteer, working in a national park and watershed protection in Honduras, Central America. My mom Jaki was finishing her nursing internship to be certified as a nurse in Honduras.
My family is very fortunate to have a blue house in the hills of San Francisco, and I am thankful for all the other blessings that I have received. Although my house only has two floors there is also a wonderful view in the backyard. In the backyard, you can see the whole city and the ocean is visible, too. We have three chickens, Snowy, Goldy, and Olive. We also have a garden with roses and vegetables, too. The inside of the house is very warm and welcoming with all of the paintings and books that my parents have collected over the years. The books and the paintings in my house reflect the many travels and adventures that my family has had visiting my mom’s family in Panama, Nicaragua, and Honduras. The paintings are of nature, animals, and people. Many of the paintings in my house came from different artists who loved using their artistic talents. My house is cozy and warm, because the heater is on most of the time, and we have lots of warm blankets. Throughout my childhood, I have learned how to have more; acceptance, love, respect, and hope for my family and friends. When I was younger it was hard to make friends and I was rejected many times, but today I am learning how to spread my wings and fly. I love to read, write, play basketball and play music such as the violin and the guitar. I also love having my family by my side when things go wrong in my life. My grandparents, aunts, cousins, and other relatives have stuck with me through many things and I am grateful for their support. These past few years have been difficult because I had to take care of my mental health and I had to have responsibility for my actions. There are many decisions I’ve made in my past that came with consequences and I regret them; but, I have learned how to let go of these regrets over time. Despite the emotional challenges I have faced because of transferring to different high schools and facing new people, I have learned how to use coping skills to help me solve my problems in my life.
In YouthLINE, I hope to create a better community for all of us and start on a fresh page. I want to look ahead to a brighter future and I can’t wait to start working on all of the new projects that need to be done. I am a Digital Media and IT Specialist at Bay Area Community Resources and I love working in photography, video making, writing, podcasts, and more. I enjoy working at YouthLINE because of the community outreach that we get involved in, too. I also look forward to getting to know all of my team members better soon.
This year is my last year of high school and I will be going to college this fall to study Marine Biology. I was inspired to study Marine Biology by Sylvia Alice Earle because of the many deep underwater expeditions and discoveries she made. For example, she studied marine algae and her work was created to raise awareness about the threats to the world's ocean such as overfishing and pollution. In my future, I hope to have a career in science like Marine Biology or Wildlife Biology. I would also like to have another job in either photography or writing.
