versations I have with myself (self-talk) that supports the person I am striving to be. I’ve learned to speak to myself the way I would a dear friend. Tough love when necessary, but mostly supportive and encouraging vocabulary. I have also learned to not make ex- cuses. If I am not feeling well enough to do something for someone, I no longer make it an excuse. I simply show up with authentic transparency. After all, if I am not willing to own up to my limitations, I cannot expect others to understand when I have them. Today, I am someone who honors my history, my health journey, and actually appreciates the difficulties my health is- sues brought to my life. Today, my life is so much richer because I have chosen to pay attention to myself holistically and I know that if I do this well enough, I will reap the benefits and so will everyone around me. Those days I do over-extend (those days aren’t nearly as often any more) serve as a reality check, reminding me to honori my limits. I no longer look at the physical things I cannot do and think of them as limits that hold me back, but rather as limits to protect me. My body was protecting me back in 1993 because I was on a direct trajectory to com- pletely crashing and burning. When I didn’t pay attention, I was given the “time out” that today, I now look at as having been one of my greatest lessons. I choose not to allow any real limits to define what I can and cannot give of myself to others, though. But, I do allow those limits to be my reminder that I have a responsibility to myself to take care of me. So far, all of that hard work has benefitted me. I started my own company, Guidance From Within Coaching, in January when I lost my own Doctor. I decided to step into my journey as a Business woman who is showing up for others in a bigger way to support and coach 50+ Women who are going through various transformations/transitions in their lives, including those who deal with chronic pain issues. As a Sub-conscious Behaviorist, my sessions provide opportunities to explore uncon- scious beliefs, limiting beliefs, reasons they might be stuck, or held back, or even some of the reasons they may have difficulty moving forward after becoming ill. I love to help women discover that all they really need is to believe in themselves. By working from their unconscious level first, they can bring about changes in their lives that ripple out to their personal relationships and beyond. It’s rewarding to help a woman develop, grow, and become someone who loves herself on all facets, and who truly finds joy in every day, regardless of chronic illness as part of their life. Managing my condition is non-negotiable. I have had no other choice. Since my Doctor is no longer available and no other Doctors in my area have that kind of experience or ex- pertise, I am my own best solution. I’ve proven to myself over the last several months that taking control of our own health and listening to what our body needs, is paramount to being able to manage and live with a chronic condition such as Fibromyalgia. After 24 years learning to live a better life and what I needed to do to manage the con- dition, this honestly has been the first year I’ve actually felt strong enough to step back WE ARE BEAUTIFUL MAGAZI NE - 73 - JANUARY/ F EB RUARY 2 0 1 8
