Mentor: I have been lucky to have so many mentors over the years but one who stands out is my
undergraduate Spanish professor Dr. Bart Lewis. He was the first person I felt fully saw me, under-
stood me and supported my passion for language and literature.
Quote: I have a Ph.D. in Spanish from Stanford University with a specialty in Latin American
Poetry. I laugh as I write this as I am no longer a professor and life has taken me on some amazing
journeys but I am a life-long academic and lover of poetry. One of my favorite quotes comes from
Mary Oliver’s poem The Summer Day: “Tell me, what is it you plan to do/ with your one wild and
precious life?”
What makes me beautiful? What makes me beautiful is my love of life and my enthusiastic na-
ture that meets people where they are and sees the wonder in all things. I have been told that I light
up a room when I enter and I am proud of that ability to bring joy to others.
