Over its long history , Disney has given rise to so many iconic characters whose names echo through the ages . Names like Mickey Mouse . Tinker Bell . Orange Bird .

Wait . Back it up a tick , you say ? You ’ ve never heard of Orange Bird ? Hasn ’ t everybody heard about the bird ? Is the bird not the word ? Well , dear reader , if you ’ re not familiar with this classic Magic Kingdom mascot , let ’ s peel back the rind and get the juicy story of this unfortunately all-too-forgotten fruit-bird hybrid .
WHO IS ORANGE BIRD ? In terms of Disney characters with on-the-nose names , Orange Bird is certainly right up there with the likes of , well , Big Nose . Not only is Orange Bird a bird who is orange , but he is also a bird with an orange for a head and green leaves for wings . If that ’ s not citrusy synthesis , I don ’ t know what is .
Having a fruit for a head aside , Orange Bird is a bird of a different feather because he ’ s incapable of singing . Instead , he communicates via orange smoke . It ’ s no wonder that Orange Bird hasn ’ t fully adapted to the social media age . After all , he can ’ t tweet .
Even if Orange Bird hasn ’ t quite taken flight in the Twitter age , he sure was a hit with Disney fans back in the 1970s and ’ 80s .
