We ’ re all familiar with Mickey ’ s first appearance in Steamboat Willie ; however , Mickey didn ’ t speak until his ninth appearance in the 1929 short , The Karnival Kid . Carl Stalling voiced Mickey Mouse as he exclaimed his first words ever : “ Hot Dogs ! Hot Dogs !” While Walt Disney did voice Mickey Mouse early on , in The Karnival Kid , Walt actually voiced Minnie Mouse .

Magician Mickey would entertain guests with magic tricks , sing Happy Birthday , and hold fun conversations . Sadly , Mickey was silenced on May 12 , 2018 , due to concerns over guest confusion as to why Mickey didn ’ t speak with guests in other parks . You can still meet Magician Mickey at the Town Square Theater ; however , he no longer verbally communicates .

Early on , Mickey Mouse was voiced by Carl Stalling , Walt Disney , and Jimmy MacDonald . In the late 1970s , Wayne Allwine took over and voiced Mickey Mouse for 32 years . When Allwine passed away in 2009 , Bret Iwan took over the role of voicing Mickey Mouse .
Mickey began wearing his white gloves on March 28 , 1929 , when he appeared in the short , The Opry House . Since then , he ’ s almost always seen wearing them .
