This time , though , it ’ s different .
I thought the dive would be about me watching stingrays and fish and sharks , and it is , but it ’ s more than that , because there are people watching us , from any of 56 windows . If you ’ ve seen the aquariums at The Seas with Nemo & Friends , you ’ ve gazed at these same animals — and , possibly , divers like I am today . I ’ m part of the show , and I can ’ t seem to stop waving at the kids and families watching . I make underwater Mickey ears , let my hair flow around me like Ursula , and revel in the buoyancy of the moment .
BRUCE ? IS THAT YOU ? The best part , though , is still those sharks .
Sure , some people may think it ’ s the giant Mickey at the bottom , or even that most hidden of hidden Mickeys in all the lands , but for me , it ’ s sharks . It ’ s always been sharks , but here , there are lots of them . And they ’ re all around me , mere feet away . I ’ d reach out and touch them , which , if we ’ re being honest , I probably could , but the Cast Members have warned us that petting Bruce and his pals is strongly forbidden . And , although I don ’ t understand why , it doesn ’ t appear any of these sharks are named Bruce , but perhaps the Cast Members neglected to mention it — after all , there are a lot of sharks here , and probably none of them will come when you call them , anyway .
Back on the surface , we regroup as we shower and dress in Disney locker rooms , get our log books stamped , and chat excitedly about our experience . I meet my husband , head to the American Adventure for an après-dive hamburger , and make a satiated beeline for our hotel , where I finally collapse into a feather-soft bed and dream , not for the first time , of life under the sea .
In my dreams , there are sharks , and they ’ re spectacular . And at least one of them is wearing Mickey ears .
No Nemo — at least , not in these shots — but what a thrill to be under the sea . Even the sharks are smiling !
