“ Silenzio , Bruno !”

- Alberto , Luca

Luca tells the tale of two sea creatures who look a lot like human boys — unless they get wet . Rather inconvenient when running around a small coastal town like Portorosso , the fictional Italian village where Luca and Alberto — our sea creatures — have run away to live .
It ’ s during their time on land that Luca becomes overwhelmed by the world around him . He ’ s trying to get the courage to jump a makeshift Vespa over a ramp . Not a great idea , but that ’ s not the point .
Alberto looks Luca in the eye and says , “ Silenzio , Bruno !” Translation : Tell that inner voice to be quiet . It becomes the rallying cry of the entire film . When negative self-talk enters Luca ’ s head , he simply repeats it .
Luca ’ s story is truly so many of ours .
