DO THESE THINGS YOU

MUST AT GALAXY ’ S EDGE

BY TRISHA DAAB

In December of 2020 , my biggest Star Wars fan donned his face mask and took his first trip to Galaxy ’ s Edge . When he got to pilot the Millennium Falcon and drink Blue Milk , his reaction was priceless .

But , later , when we didn ’ t get on Star Wars : Rise of the Resistance , had no Oga ’ s Cantina or Savi ’ s Workshop reservations , and started to run out of things to do , the magic faded . So learn from my mistakes , set expectations , and make your youngling ’ s journey to Batuu truly magical .
DRESS , DINE , AND TALK LIKE A LOCAL Preparing for Batuu starts with learning the local language . When ordering your Triple Suns Breakfast Wrap at Ronto Roasters , say “ bright suns ” (“ good morning ”). Make sure to visit the refresher ( bathroom ) and buy your Blue Milk with credits ( regular money ).

Speaking of Blue Milk , all of the food in Black Spire Outpost is themed . Coca-Cola products come in custom-designed bottles , you can try Smoked Kaadu Pork Ribs at Docking Bay 7 , and even the littlest Padawans can enjoy a refreshing Tatooine Sunset drink .
We ’ d travel the galaxy for that Ronto Wrap at Ronto Roasters , our favorite place to grab a bite and research the creatures that inspired the dishes .
Padawans under 14 can don Jedi robes or full costumes . At 14 and older , no full costumes are allowed , so Disneybound to rep your side . Style your hair like Rey or rock white and black like a Stormtrooper .
BUILD-YOUR-OWN ADVENTURE The ultimate way to show whether you ’ re First Order or Resistance is building a lightsaber at Savi ’ s Workshop . When choosing a crystal for your lightsaber , remember : Color is everything ! Blue or green for Resistance or red for First Order . Or maybe the mysterious purple , for those who feel the Light and Dark sides of the Force . But plan ahead : This completely immersive experience requires advance reservations .
Assemble a sidekick over at Droid Depot . This experience is not as immersive as Savi ’ s Workshop , but it is less expensive , the droids are cute , and they interact with other droids around Galaxy ’ s Edge .
Droids and other out-of-this-world details are everywhere . Encourage your kids to track everything they recognize from the movies — from furry friends at the Creature Stall , to companions at the droid junkyard , to the instantly recognizable ships and vehicles everywhere you look .
Or play an actual “ game ” by downloading the Datapad App . This puts you in the story of Black Spire Outpost as a character in the ongoing fight between the First Order and the Resistance . You can even use Datapad to translate signs and eavesdrop on the locals ’ conversations .
Get the total download on the Datapad App in our April 2020 issue .
FIND YOUR CREW Whichever side you choose , you ’ ll find your people wandering around Black Spire Outpost — Stormtroopers recruiting , Kylo Renn giving orders in front of his TIE echelon , Chewy repairing an X-Wing , and Rey walking on the roof of the landspeeder garage .
The ultimate crew experience is on the rides — Millennium Falcon : Smuggler ’ s Run and Star Wars : Rise of the Resistance . Mind-blowing for anyone , but especially out-of-this-world for the little Star Wars fans in your family .
Want Chewy as a co-pilot ? Find out how in our May 2020 Issue .
Visiting at night will also feel new . Black Spire Outpost has a mysterious and dangerous vibe when the locals are saying “ rising moons ” (“ good evening ”). The ships are lit , mountains glow , and special sounds fill the air .
Take home the cutest creature in the galaxy with PhotoPass Magic Shots . Grogu floats near the Toy Story Land entrance , and a Porg may pop on your arm near Smuggler ’ s Run .
Take this advice you will , and happy your Padawan will be .
