Cast Members will always be wearing name tags when on the clock ( and those sweet , new 50th tags are a beaut to look at ). But don ’ t think you ’ re too well-acquainted with a CM just because you see their name . Cast Members who lose their name tags have access to a stockpile of genderneutral name tags , meaning the name you see might not be their actual name . “ Nice to meet ya , Sam … if that is your real name !”

The two-fingered point is Cast Member 101 . In some cultures , pointing with a single finger like the index finger is offensive . That ’ s why all Cast Members are taught that they must either point with two fingers or their entire hand . Be careful : If you ’ re on Disney Property as a guest and point with two fingers , guests may mistake you for a Cast Member . Just ask our editorial director , Rain !

Pirates of the Caribbean is allegedly haunted by the ghost of George , an Imagineer who supposedly died while welding a piece of the attraction in the ’ 70s . To make sure George remains a friendly ghost ( i . e ., not breaking down the ride ), Cast Members start and end their days by saying , “ Good morning , George ,” and “ Goodnight , George .”

To hide some of the trauma of real-life accidents — lost kids , medical emergencies , and the like — Cast Members use code words when talking on headsets . For example , you might hear a Cast Member say , “ We have a code Pooh , Piglet is on the loose ” because it ’ s far less alarming to guests than “ Lost kid ! I repeat , lost kid !”

Every new Cast Member starts their training with a course called Traditions . Nowadays , Traditions is hosted at the ESPN World Wide of Sports Complex . During this training , new CMs learn about the company history and the Five Keys ( previously Four ) and take part in team-building exercises .
Last October , Walt Disney World celebrated its 50th anniversary , and many Cast Members were celebrating their 50-year milestones along with the park ( Disney calls them the “ Class of 1971 ”). Ahead of the 50th anniversary , Disney held a celebration for roughly two dozen 50-year CMs , each of whom received a special keepsake to honor their commitment .

Thinking about auditioning for a costumed character ? Just because they don ’ t talk ( no costumed character can talk while “ onstage ”) doesn ’ t mean they don ’ t communicate . Cast Members auditioning for costumed characters are typically asked to pantomime various activities (“ now show me making a sandwich ”) since , when costumed , every gesture must be grand . For what other job would “ Charades ” need to be listed under special skills ?
