ELIXIR 13 AT ABRACADABAR
When AbracadaBar first opened , they offered an absinthe-based drink called Elixir 13 , but it was so potent that they implemented a two-drink maximum — and it eventually disappeared from the menu altogether . ( Those darn magicians .)
But on my last visit to Disney , after a long day at Magic Kingdom , where my only opportunity for a drink had been a sit-down meal at Skipper Canteen , I told the bartender at the BoardWalk ’ s AbracadaBar that I needed something strong .
He looked both ways as if to ensure Houdini wasn ’ t listening in before telling me he could make me the coveted , discontinued Elixir 13 . What luck !
The Elixir 13 is not for everybody . It ’ s warm , it has a relentless black licorice taste , and it ’ s very potent . ( It most definitely took the edge off after a 20,000 + step day at Magic Kingdom !) This drink used to come in a novelty cup with eerie eyes etched into the glass , but nowadays , it ’ s not so Instagrammable .
So be warned : Only drink this if you ’ re looking for a strong elixir after a long day — and can stomach the taste of black licorice .
What ’ s in it ? When it was on the menu , Disney described Elixir 13 as a “ mysterious cocktail that may have made a room full of magicians vanish into thin air .”
And the ingredients ? Just Lucid Absinthe ( 62 % ABV ) and water . A deadly combination .
