A dynasty cemented after the program’ s third consecutive 1A state championship last December brought an end to the high school football careers of players like Stryker Reed, Ry Reed, Brayden Walters and Noah Kostiha.
With a rebuilding roster, realignment changes and the departure of assistant coaches Shad Reed and Ligon West, the Longhorns understand things look different in 2026.
“ Somebody’ s ready to knock us off,” said head coach Mike Reed.“ They may not be as scared.”
Reed expects a bumpy road ahead, as practices seem to fly by with the amount of learning involved and frustration shown among the players; however, the program embraces the obstacles and even with bumps

A 44-game win streak looks to be extended entering Reed’ s ninth season as head coach. What he recalled as part of the process in earning the win streak and the 3-year dominance in the postseason is the program’ s quest to be“ the main event.”
