Mishal Husain was born
in England to Pakistani
parents in 1973, and grew
up in the Middle East and
the U.K. Her interest in
journalism was piqued in
1991 while interning at
a local English-language
Pakistani daily, where
she quickly rose to the
level of reporter, covering
stories in such countries
as Pakistan, Russia,
Uzbekistan and Georgia.
Miss Husain currently
hosts the PBS program
“Wide Angle” with James
Rubin, and continues her
work with the BBC.

In a country where women have
hardly any recognition, Dr Mona
Al Munajjed is not only Saudi
Arabia’s foremost sociologist
– she’s a high-profile women’s
activist as well. She has spent
fifteen years working and advising
various UN international agencies.
Much of her work involved helping
local NGOs in Saudi Arabia,
particularly by providing technical
assistance and advisory services
to women’s welfare associations.
Al Munajjed is also a published
author. Her books include Saudi
Women Speak; 24 Remarkable
Women Tell Their Success Stories
(2006) and Women in Saudi
Arabia Today (1997).
