Netball trials took place at the end of Term 1 and we 27 enthusiastic students trial. Unfortunately this was only enough for two teams as any less than 10 in a team has caused difficulties in the past. Two teams with 12 players on each, those unfortunate few who missed out were given the opportunity to be training partners and would have been first call if any player was injured or left school.

We were lucky to have two sets of outside coaches volunteer to take the teams and my role reverted to a purely administrative one.

The A Team was coached by a team led by Te Aroha Kora and the B Team’s coaching group was led by Gemma Anderson. Thank you all for your dedication and encouragement of the students.

Both teams competed in the local competition run by Netball Whanganui and had many a close encounter with teams at similar levels to them. An interschool fixture with Otaki College gave both teams a chance to experience playing indoors and a taste of Kapiti Coast Netball as we travelled to Otaki. The second interschool against Queen Elizabeth College we hosted here. It is always a good experience for the players to see what Netball in other areas is like.

The first week in September saw the A team travel each day to Palmerston North to take part in the Lower North Island Secondary School Netball Tournament. They acquitted themselves well and finished 24th.

Looking forward to growing the sport in 2019
