This year we were very fortunate to have the services of Mrs Yvonne Bieleski as coach for hockey. She brought with her a vast amount of hockey experience and coaching knowledge and as the students will say ‘Is the most positive coach on the planet’.

Our mixed team played in the Division 3 Men’s competition. This grade consisted of a other school teams from WHS, Collegiate and St Anthonys. We were fortunate to pick up Riley Wright and Kyla Stevens from Cullinane due to Cullinane not being able to field a team. We also had the services of Ratunui Latus and Tr`e Joseph both U13 rep players from WIS who will both be joining us as Year 9s in 2019.

Traditionally WCC has strong girls in the team who can foot it against the boys teams. This year was no different. Leeza Loveridge, Ani Latus, Kyla Joseph led the way with Raiha Mihaka and Kyla Stevens learning more every game and showing that they will be a force to be reckoned with in the future. Our boys were led by Jadien Mills-Nossiter (U15 Whanganui Representative) in goal with Mitchell Bissett and Guy Waugh leading on the field. They were joined by our two internationals who were used to playing their hockey on ice, Toa Therian and Simon Hersberger. Layton Zimmerman decided to have a try at hockey and discovered he was quite good at it along with Tyler Huff, Josh Henare, Christian Sklenaars, Josh Smith.

Our team made it through to the semi finals losing to a very strong Collegiate second team in the semi final. Many thanks to our team of vocal supporters and Ethan Goldsack our umpire for the season.
