�arryl ‘ �MC ’ Mc�aniels gained fame as one of the co-founding members of legendary hip-hop group Run �MC . But as readers of these pages know , his creative impulses have found outlets outside of music , too . In our last issue , we highlighted the new �MC-labeled wine-and-sweets collection , �arryl Mack Cellars , the �ayne resident recently launched � “ CRO�� PLEASE ,” HOLI�AY 2021� . Now the musician-businessman has taken on another title : author .

WRESTLING COACH SCOTTMAHONEY REACHES CAREER MILESTONE
Longtime Pompton Lakes wrestling coach Scott Mahoney picked up career win No . 400 in �anuary when the Cardinals defeated New Milford , 45-36 in Pompton Lakes . Mahoney is in his 26th year as head coach of his alma mater , and is the longest-tenured wrestling coach in school history . He took over the program from his father , Ed Mahoney , in 1997 , after serving as an assistant for two years . Mahoney , who is also the Pompton Lakes head football coach , reached the 100-win plateau in football in 2019 .
�uring Mahoney ’ stenure , the Pompton Lakes wrestling team has won several league titles , as well as three district championships and a state sectional title in 2015 . On the gridiron , the Cardinals have won four N�SIAA sectional titles . Mahoney also coached the boys lacrosse program for five years before stepping away two years ago .
“ �hen Ire�ect on my career , Idon ’ t think of the number of wins or the milestones , but more so the student athletes I ’ ve had the opportunity to coach and mentor ,” Mahoney says . “ To see them grow up and follow their careers and lives long after they ’ ve left high school is special and so rewarding . Pompton Lakes has afforded me the opportunity to coach both sports , and that means alot to me . I ’ m doing what Ilove to do .”

GRANT TO LIBRARYSPARKS PLANS FOR E�PANSION
The Alfred H . Baumann Free Public Library is a much-used resource for �oodland Park residents looking to improve their ESL skills , gain computer knowledge to rejoin the workforce , study in their after-school programs or just read a book . It ’ s a community center , says its director , Linda Hoffman — all it ’ s missing isade�uate space .
So it ’ swelcome news that in �anuary , Gov . Phil Murphy ’ s administration announced asecond round of grants of about �37 million to 36 libraries . �hile �oodland Park was not arecipient in the first round , which allocated �87.5 million and was announced two years earlier , this time , the town was among the largest grant winners , getting almost �2.9 million , or roughly half of the �5.7 million ithopes to spend on a new library .
The plan istoalmost double the si�e available , from 7,740 s�uare feet to more than 13,700 . There will be community rooms , tutoring areas , innovation areas , 3� printing and a�uiet area in which to work and maybe enjoy acup of coffee . Still , even including roughly �1.25 million from other sources , the vision is about �1.5 million short in funding . The library has several months to seek out private capital .
