Livable
Luxury
Homeowners have their cake and eat
it, too (due to wipe-able furnishings)

House Living

a consultation
wanted, as most homeown-
ers do, a living space whose
looks reflect their personal-
ity and lifestyle. That meant
decor for their Wayne home
that accommodated two
loves: luxurious surround-
ings and their three little
boys. Staff designer Veronica Pluta rose to the challenge
with a design that balances luxury and comfort, glam-
our and convenience — and gentle perimeters. “Every
time her first son goes to touch something he shouldn’t
touch, his mom says ‘That’s Veronica’s,’” Pluta says of
the owner, laughing. “He’s going to grow up and say,
‘Why does everything in this house belong to Veronica?’”
(Above) Pluta poses in the foyer with a custom-made
showcase bar piece of wood and metal whose doors
sport bone inlay in a chevron pattern.
FIRST IMPRESSION
“The living room is the first room you see when you enter the home,
and we wanted to make a bold statement,” says Pluta. “It should be
a representation of what’s going to happen in the rest of the home.”
Here, themes of geometric patterns, mixed materials, animal prints,
subtle hues and sparkle all present themselves for the first time to visi-
tors. The couch beneath the two mirrored artworks has a tufted outer
frame sheathed in metallic silk, while the inner frame is a comfortable
sofa. It is flanked by two transitional leather wing chairs with animal
print fabric on the backs. The over-scale cocktail table has the same
glass and finish as the end tables.
