Wayne Mayor Christopher Vergano
ON THE SCENE Mayor Christopher Vergano can be spotted all around the township at community events like visits from Santa, the annual Mayor’ sCup hockey game between the Wayne Hills and Wayne Valley high schools and the Little League opening day.
Christopher Vergano, 57, has been the mayor of Wayne Township since 2008, after serving as acouncilman and asa school board trustee. He’ savice president at Hishi Plastics USA, Inc., a Mitsubishi Group Company, and has two children with his wife Deneen – Alli, 20, and Kyle, 25. Being involved in the community where he grew upin avariety ofways has always appealed to Vergano.
Making a home
“ My parents originally moved us to Wayne in 1962 and they still live in the Township.”
The call to public service
“ I was originally asked by some friends to run for a position on the board of education. I served three terms before deciding to run for Councilman at Large. After serving as a councilman for eight years an opportunity presented itself to run for mayor and I have enjoyed serving since day one. I am grateful to the voters of Wayne for continuing to give me the opportunity to serve.”
Safety first
“ I joined the Wayne Memorial First Aid Squad when I was 16 and thoroughly enjoyed the group of people that Iserved with, as well as giving back to the community. I served for 15 years on the squad and served several terms as president.”
Play ball
I have coached at Wayne PAL and at Packanack Lake Association and had the privilege of coaching both my son and daughter.
What makes Wayne so special
“ It is a large town, with a small-town feel. There are many activities for all walks of life to participate in. It has a great school system and a vibrant commercial base of restaurants and shops. It has something for everyone.”
Man about town
“ I enjoy spending time in our various parks and lake communities and can be seen frequently eating with my family at local restaurants.” ■
