SUPER SUBS
JERSEY MIKE’S SUBS
Best friends since high school, John Helm
and Matt Catania bring the Jersey Shore sub
experience up north with the opening of two
JERSEY MIKE’S SUBS in Wayne (1055 Hamburg
Turnpike, 973-706-8780 and 57 Route 23 South,
973-837-6896, www.jerseymikes.com).
“Everything is made fresh like in a local
deli,” explains Catania. Produce arrives daily
from local providers and every morning all
vegetables are hand-sliced and all bread
baked. “We hand-trim, tie and cook the roast
beef right in our store,” says Catania.
Popular menu items include the Club
Supreme (roast beef, turkey, Swiss cheese,
bacon and mayo), Chipotle Cheese Steak
(Grilled onions, peppers and chipotle mayo)
and Jersey Shore’s Favorite (provolone, ham
and cappacuolo). Cold subs can be fixed
Mike’s Way with onions, lettuce, tomatoes,
vinegar, oil and spices, or customized your
way. Any sandwich can be made as a wrap
or as a sub-in-a-tub over lettuce. Jersey Mike’s
Subs supports its neighboring community
with fundraisers. The Wayne grand openings
raised money to benefit Wayne Hills and
Wayne Valley high schools’ PTOs.

ANNE-MARIE CARUSO
Wayne residents Victor and Gina Abdy, and brothers Sean and Ryan
Whiteley, recently opened THE MADISON DOG RESORT & SPA
(15 Corporate Drive, 973-832-7710, www.themadisondogresort.com ) in
Wayne. “We are a boutique hotel resort and spa that offers luxury boarding and dog care with uber-quality and high-end pet services,” explains
Abdy. As advocates for the open pack mentality, the owners encourage
the dogs in their care to socialize with other dogs of similar size and
temperament all day in a cage-free facility under human supervision.
The 64,000-square-foot space has
orthopedic flooring, surround sound
televisions and soothing music playing
when dogs rest alone in private
24-square-foot kennels with open
tops, partitioned walls and glass doors.
A camera surveillance system allows
pet owners to watch their dogs
throughout the day via a phone app.
The Madison is conveniently located
for commuters near the Wayne Transit
Center on Route 23. Certified veterinary technicians and professional dog
groomers are on staff for dog boarding, day care, grooming and training.
