There ’ s an old groaner of ajoke you ’ ve probably heard : Q : How do you get to Carnegie Hall ? A : Practice , practice , practice . Sometimes , though , there ’ s truth in corny sayings . As most of us have found out , passion alone doesn ’ t get us to prized goals — we need to focus and work hard .
In this issue , we profile three individuals who have done just that in their chosen fields . For as long as she can remember , Jessica Hatfield has trained to be askater ; for the last 14 years , she has been on tour as a professional , and most recently performed as Cinderella in Disney on Ice . on top of shifting trends and formats isn ’ t easy , but his company just celebrated its 25th anniversary . Tommaso Antonino Aiello is committed to preserving his family ’ s traditions with his Nonna Mariantonia brand , which makes his great grandmother Mariantonia Gatto Aiello ’ s tomato sauce available to area residents and Facebook group fans . In April , Aiello ’ s original sauce won an award from the San Francisco-based Good Food Foundation .
Does hard work inevitably lead to success ? There ’ s no guarantee — only that if you ’ re doing what you love , you ’ ll find moments of joy that animate you to keep going . For example , you might be an editor and get to feature interesting people , or awriter who produces aturn-of-phrase that captures the essence of the profile subject exactly .
