LOOKING GOOD AT 175
The township of WAYNE celebrated its 175TH BIRTHDAY in April with festivities that honored the past and provided fun for children ( who represent the town ’ s future ). These included a picnic at the Dey Mansion with local and county leaders . In addition to food trucks and ice cream , the event featured the stylings of Bach to Rock , alocal music school ; Lokai Rose , a charity in West Milford , offered nature-themed activities for children . Historian Mary Stockwell led a discussion based on her April 2018 biography , Unlikely General :‘ Mad ’ Anthony Wayne and the Battle for America .
Wayne was incorporated in April 1847 after its citizens elected to split from the township of Manchester , which officially dissolved when Haledon formed 61 years later . In 1860 , Wayne ’ s population was 1,355 , yet there were 364 sheep , 530 pigs and 615 cows . Now the township , with a population of 54,838 , is mostly known as a hub for commerce and shopping .

4-H CLUB MEMBERS GIVE BACK
Though PASSAIC COUNTY ’ S 4-H YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM is a unit of the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station , much of their good works are done in more urban settings . These include the toiletry donation drive that the Passaic County 4-H Club organized during the winter , when travel-sized toiletries were collected from across the county and donated to the Passaic County Women ’ s Center , the county ’ s lead domestic violence and sexual assault agency . Volunteers also collected more than 500 personal care items , 70 toys and books to create welcome kits for men , women and children arriving at the shelter .
