Team spirit leads Wayne Valley to tournament championship
Despite dealing with equipment shortages while developing most players from scratch, the Wayne Valley girls fencing program continues to thrive under head Ann Marie McGrath.
The Indians are coming off of their third consecutive Passaic County tournament championship. Using ateam-first attitude, Wayne Valley was able to edge out Wayne Hills, winner of the District 4 tournament earlier in the year, byamere four touches in addition to third place Pompton Lakes.
It took acomplete squad effort, as the epee team, led by senior Zoe Cronin, junior Kathryn De Stefano and junior Christine Hamza, took first place to lift the school to atournament victory. Hamza ended up topping the county in the event, while De Stefano finished third overall.
