Emergency Department ( ED ), ChiltonMedical Center is backatthe drafting table , making enhancements to the new design using valuable insights gained during the COVID-19pandemic .
“ Our goal for the new ED has always been to align ourphysicalspace with theexcellence of our clinical care and services ,” stated ED Chairman and ChiefMedical Officer Eric Perez , MD . “ COVID-19 highlighted the need for additionalfeatures anddesign elements to strengthenthe already high-quality carewe offer , and they have sincebeen added to our plans .”

Theseinclude negative-pressure ventilationfor patients on isolation , exam roomssized forlifesavingrespiratory equipment , and larger clinical workstationsthat will allowfor increased staffing at timesofheightened volume .
“ Chilton is one of the nation ’ s first hospitalstoundertake an ED modernization project in the months afterthe height of COVID-19 ,” said Chilton President Stephanie Schwartz , FACHE . “ This stateof-the-art space willrepresent thestart of anew era in emergencymedicine .”
WhileChilton has made significant investments of time , effort , and expertise in the ED project , majorcommitments of resources have also propelled it forward .
“ The Chilton Medical Center Foundation hasbuilt the framework for amultimillion-dollar fundraisinginitiative to support construction of the new ED ,” explained Chief Development Officer Joan Beloff . “ Seven figures had been raised before the campaigncould even be announced , demonstratingthe community ’ soverwhelming support for the project .”
When completed , the ED will feature 33 privateexamrooms ; adedicated suite to address behavioral health needs ; aprivate , comfortableregistration andwaiting area ; and repositioned clinical workstations thatmaximize sightlines between patients andproviders .

With construction set to begin later this year , Schwartz stressed the importanceoflocal support .
