FROM THE PLAYING FIELD
TO THE BROADCAST BOOTH
When the New York Giants hosted the Arizona Cardinals in mid-
October, a familiar face of New Jersey athletics made an appearance
in the TV broadcast booth. Greg Olsen, the Carolina Panthers’ tight
end and former Wayne Hills High School star, teamed with Kenny
Albert on FOX’s game broadcast. (Olsen was available because the
Panthers were on a bye week.) It was his second game as a member
of the national broadcast team; his first came two years ago. “It’s
very different, and it’s hard,” Olsen told NorthJersey.com and USA
TODAY Network Northeast. “I have a lot of respect now for the
other side of it, because it’s not an easy job. There is a lot of prep
— it’s not just show up and start guessing about what you see.
These guys put a lot of time in. They really study it, they work at it,
or else you can tell during the broadcast. Kind of like if you’re not
prepared for a game.”
