T
hanksgiving is so close, you
can almost smell the turkey
browning in the oven. Or
maybe it’s just us. At Wayne
Magazine, we’ve been
focusing on food, glorious food, as
our holiday issue theme.
While in past issues, we’ve written up many of the
area’s great eateries, in “Tastemakers,” we focus on
three chef-owners — Robbie Felice of Viaggio in
Wayne, Cynthia Pacillo of Cyndia’s in Totowa and
Anton Testino of Axton’s by Chef Anton Testino in
Pompton Lakes — who stand out from the crowd.
Learn why they love what they do, what’s unique
about their food, and the advice they have for family
chefs during the holidays.
We also review Wayne’s Seafood Village (“Asian,
Cajun and Casual”), where the menu is fun and
flavorful, and dining on the “seafood boiling” entrees
can be, in a word, immersive.
We’ve tucked other treats into this issue as well. In
“Home for the Holidays,” owners of a Kinnelon home
welcome their three adult children and extended
family back to enjoy rituals that have remained
unchanged over decades. To keep sports-related
aches and pains from marring your festivities, we
offer “Get Yourself Off the Disabled List,” in which
experts in sports medicine share the latest techniques
for staying fit and active. And “So History Won’t
Repeat Itself” tells the story of Ernesto Diaz, a teacher
at Passaic County Technical Institute in Wayne who
traveled to Eastern Europe to study the Holocaust,
including the righteous gentiles who saved Jewish
lives there. His efforts remind us that often, the most
valuable gift we can give each other is our time.
Thanks for giving us yours. ■
