I
’ ve written about 30 letters since becoming editor ofWayne Magazine six years ago , and in each , I ’ ve written avariation on the theme “ Check out the beautiful spaces and fascinating people of our area .” Sothis letter is a departure , because I ’ musing ittosay farewell .
Not from North Jersey … I ’ ve loved living here for 34 years , and am not about toleave now . But this is my final issue aseditor . The time has come to retire … or , as my husband , afellowretiree , says , start the next chapter .

As Iwrite this , Chapter One begins with amonth-long drive tovisit two of our three kids inChicago and Granby , Colorado , with stops along the way . We ’ ll travel asfar north as Minneapolis , and asfar south as St . Louis . And , Isuspect , while enjoying the towns near the Rockies , Badlands and Great Lakes , I ’ ll be quietly comparing each to North Jersey . What would it be like to live here ? What kinds of stories make the news ? ( I actually do take photos of local newspaper front pages . My favorite is from Alberta ’ s Rocky Mountain Outlook : “ Two bison bulls bolt from Banff park project .” Love the alliteration .
I ’ ll miss writing my own headlines and articles for Wayne Magazine . I ’ ll even miss writing captions . It ’ s been an honor — and atremendous amount of fun .. ■

After spending six years as editor of Wayne Magazine and associate editor of ( 201 ) Magazine , and more than adecade as editor of Montclair Magazine , CINDY SCHWEICH HANDLER has made her final edit .
Handler recently announced her retirement , but don ’ t worry , she still plans to freelance for Wayne and our other publications , so keep an eye out for her byline !
