editor ’ s letter

For Wayne area residents who enjoy being active , fall is afun time of year . The weather ’ s still accommodating enough for outdoor tennis , as our writer Philip DeVencentis notes in “ Tennis Open to All .” His reporting documents how the Wayne Racquet Club , est . 1973 , has actually seen an uptick in members since the pandemic began ; tennis is the perfect sport for socially distanced exercise , and the club attracts an interesting and diverse mix of players .

There are plenty of sports you can play indoors , of course .“ ATouch Away from Victory ” highlights our cover subject , Riverdale ’ s Jacqueline Dubrovich , who came this close to winning her Round of 32 fencing competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics this summer . And if you like to take your sports from the vantage-point of your lounger — that is , as entertainment — you ’ ll be interested in “ Pro Wrestling Merch Smack Down .” The story chronicles former Wayne resident Tommy Fierro ’ s promotion of celebrity pro wrestlers in person at his store , The Wrestling Collector , and across his social media platforms .
Then , when you ’ ve built up an appetite playing ( or watching ), you ’ ll want to know about the new food destinations in the area . Whether you ’ re in the mood for smoked brisket , poke nachos or mini Oreo sandwiches ,“ Comfort Food for Crazy Times ” has you covered . Work hard and play hard , Wayne , and enjoy the season . ■
