T
he clients, who lived in Lyndhurst, were
building their dream home on a lake in
Wayne, and sought an interior design that
did justice to its spectacular setting and
grand dimensions. “They wanted a modern
aesthetic, an open floor plan with lighter
elements and bold accents, and to bring the outside
in,” says Vanessa DeLeon, owner of Vanessa DeLeon
Associates in New York (above, in the home’s living
room). Her design takes visitors into the heart of luxury,
while never leaving the lake far behind.
THE LAKE IS THE STAR
The great room’s sectional sofa, which seats a dozen, keeps a low
profile so the view of the lake off the side deck is unobstructed. To
make a bold statement on the wall, DeLeon chose iridescent, metal-
lic tiles that extend from the basement to the second floor. The Billy
Cotton chandelier’s linear tubes add an architectural element, as do
the grommets that hold the glass rail on the upper level catwalk
connecting the master wing and the children’s rooms. A photo by
Steven Lyon that graces the column can rise mechanically to
reveal a TV behind it.
