Past collides with present on Dan Bruder’ s new album

Arocker by trade in the 1980s, Dan Bruder took along hiatus from his creative endeavors, raising a family at his Wayne home in adevelopment where there are no sidewalks, and the curved streets bear names like Lily Pond Lane and Tulip Terrace.

His recently-released second album, Evolution, marks achange from jet-set young rocker to wiser middle-age rocker. It’ s comprised of polished arrangements of songs Bruder wrote in the 1980s, set
beside ahandful of new compositions. As his past collided with his present, the title revealed itself, he says.“ Ididn’ t feel as obligated or determined to make apoint,” Bruder says of the songs he wrote in his younger days, such as“ City Tear,”“ Girls Night,“ Shout” and“ Powerside,” which appear on the new record, afollow-up to 2010’ s Act of Kindness.
WHO THE HELL IS DANBRUDER?
In 2010, Bruder produced a web series called Who the Hell is Dan Bruder? The show, written in the
style ofCurb Your Enthusiasm, followed abumbling version ofhimself as he assembled a roster of real-life professional musicians, from Billy Joel’ s longtime drummer, Liberty Devito, to Bon Jovi’ s violinist, Lorenza Ponce, to revive dormant dreams of being a professional musician. After the show, the band recorded Act of Kindness.
More recently, Bruder got the itch to once again record and perform under the moniker The Dan Bruder Band. He brought in producer John Ginty, a professional sideman who has worked with acts such as The
