AT THE LPGA
Wayne native MARINA ALEX won her
first LPGA Tour title over Labor Day
weekend at the Cambia Portland Classic in
Oregon. Alex, 28, closed with a 7-under-par
65 to finish four strokes ahead of third-
round leader Georgia Hall, finishing
19-under 269. Love of golf runs in the
family; Alex’s father competes in senior
amateur events, and her brother, Anthony,
plays for Florida State University. Alex
was a two-time New Jersey high school
champion at Wayne Hills, an All-American
at Vanderbilt and is in her fifth full season
on the Ladies Professional Golf Association
Tour. Her career earnings so far are
$2,075,804.

SHOW AND SALE
More than 100 woodcarvers, painters, crafters and
wood turners will be present at this year’s ARTS,
CRAFTS AND WOODCARVING SHOW AND SALE.
Decorative items such as paintings, prints, jewelry
and stained glass will be for sale, and there will be a
judged woodcarving, painting and drawing competi-
tion, as well as free carving or craft demos. Every
hour brings a door prize, selected from items creat-
ed and donated by the exhibitors. Guests can buy
carving supplies, books, wood, carving bark and
Christmas gifts. Refreshments and free parking
available. $5, free for kids younger than 12 when
