Both were 20 years old. A roofer, Baker was assigned to work in the Brooklyn Navy Yard during World War II. The couple built a home at Lindy’s Lake in West Milford, where they raised their children; years later, while clearing her parents’ home for resale, daughter Kitty Baker Sarro found piles of the Pequannock Valley Argus in their attic, and donated them to North Jersey Media Group. The newspapers lend insight into turn-of-the-century life in the area, with reporting about the failed local buck- wheat crop, and a Newfoundland man who “still remains in the asylum.” ec Follow @TheR d share your own an m ra ag on Inst photos using local vintage Archives #Record
