“I AM MOST INSPIRED BY MY CLIENTS, AND
AIM TO REFLECT THEIR INDIVIDUALITY IN THE
DESIGN OF THEIR HOMES. OFTEN, THAT MAY
INCLUDE WEAVING EXISTING FURNISHINGS,
TRAVEL KEEPSAKES, AND COLLECTIBLES IN A
WAY THAT COMBINES GOOD DESIGN WITH
WHAT’S MEANINGFUL TO THEM.”
SUSAN BARBIERI
REUPHOLSTER AND RENEW
In the study, the homeowners’ sofa was in good condition, so Barbieri
had it reupholstered in a light fabric. The new sofa, covered in zebra-print
fabric, adds color and interest. Barbieri selected the wall mirrors and had
draperies made in a pure white ball gown-style satin to add brightness.
The cowhide rug and floor covering beneath are fun and colorful; the
wood coffee table with metal base and the lamps continue the light
new sensibility.
DINING ROOM FACELIFT
The clients’ dining room furniture was beloved and in good condition,
but not in keeping with their goal of brightening the dark room. To offset
their traditional look, Barbieri stripped the heavy dark wallpaper from the
walls and had it painted a deep blue with white contrast on the mold-
ings. A contemporary mirror, reupholstered seats, new shades, sunburst
sconces, and green accents in the centerpiece and kidney pillows add
flair to a formerly brooding setting. ■
