LOOKING BACK Glorious scoops From 1945 until its closure in 2002, the Old Barn Milk Bar on Hamburg Turnpike in Wayne had long been a summer tradition for generations of North Jerseyans looking for softball-sized scoops of Alderney Dairy ice cream. Many a local will remember the long lines, particularly after local football games, and a parking lot full of open trunks for tailgating at the McMinn family-owned establishment, built in what was an 18th-century barn. Pictured here is Lorraine Michelle Geer and her mother, Claire M. Geer enjoying some of those famous cones back in 1957. The Geer family, including Lorraine’s brother Dennis (not pictured), lived in Union City, NJ but would often make the trek to the Milk Bar for a treat after dinner on Sunday. Years later, Dennis made sure to bring his own children to the Bar before it closed down for good. The Bar’s long-time owner, Robert McMinn, passed away in June 2016 at the age of 92. – Adriana Mariella Do you have a great photo for Looking Back?
