ORTHOPEDICS IS THE BRANCH OF MEDICINE CONCERNED WITH CONDITIONS
involving the musculoskeletal system, often associated with putting
together the pieces of a puzzle. This is exactly what attracted Dr.
William A. Matarese, a board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon and
Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, to this
particular field.
“Growing up, my father, a police officer in Brooklyn, pushed me
in the direction of medicine. I am forever grateful to him. I
enjoyed building and fixing things, so orthopedics was naturally
the right choice,” says Dr. Matarese. “In orthopedics more than
any other area of medicine, there’s an immediate gratification for
the patient and physician. A person gets an injury or has a deformity and we can generally help them get back on their feet doing
what they love and returning to productive members of our
society.”
Dr. Matarese earned his medical degree from the University of
Connecticut School of Medicine. He completed a general surgery
internship at Albert Einstein/Montefiore Medical Center and an
orthopedic surgery residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Medical
Center. He is fellowship trained in total joint arthroplasty and
limb lengthening at the Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopedic
Institute in New York.
Dr. Matarese is joined by Dr. Tony S. Wanich, a specialist in the
field of sports medicine and an expert in the arthroscopic
management of shoulder, hip and knee injuries. After completing
his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the world-renowned
Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, Dr. Wanich received
additional specialty training in Sports Medicine at the Kerlan Jobe
Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles. He is team physician for
several area school sporting teams at the high school and college
level and works with athletes from weekend warriors to elite
players to get back to the field and to prevent future injuries. Dr.
Wanich is also an Assistant Professor at the Albert Einstein College
of Medicine. Dr. Matarese and Dr. Wanich are proud to soon
welcome Dr. Sherwin Su to the practice, trained in Mako
robotic-arm assisted orthopedic surgeries. “It’s a real asset having
these two outstanding physicians to work alongside. We are a true
state-of-the-art trained staff including our Physician Assistant,
Patrizia Tirri, beloved by our patients,” added Dr. Matarese.
Mountain High Orthopedics has a physical therapy center directly
across the street from its Wayne office, headed by Ryan Ramirez, a
Licensed Physical Therapist with awards in Clinical Excellence.
The practice’s physical therapy center allows for a good continuity
of care working hand in hand with the physicians. Mr. DeNeen
has experience treating a wide variety of orthopedic and
neurological conditions ranging from pediatric to geriatric patient
populations.
