“Believe in yourself. I never thought
I’d be an NFL cheerleader, but now I am.
I never thought I’d be in grad school,
but now I am. Anything is possible.”

If four years ago you would have asked Pompton Lakes
native Samara Lobosco what she would be doing when she
graduated from the University of Delaware, her response
would not have been cheering for the Philadelphia
Eagles, but that’s just what she’s doing now.
Lobosco graduated from the university in May 2015,
where she was captain of the dance team, and had
begun pursuing a master’s degree in special education.
Post-graduation, however, she realized to her dismay that
dance was suddenly no longer going to be a part of her
life. Lobosco’s mother suggested she look into professional
dance opportunities nearby, such as cheerleading for the
Philadelphia Eagles. After attending a workshop hosted
by the team, she auditioned and made it.
After nearly two decades of dance training (most at
Performing Arts Academy), countless competitions
and years spent as captain of both the cheerleading
and dance teams at DePaul Catholic High School in
Wayne and the University of Delaware, the 2015
football season will be Lobosco’s first with the
team. She advises young dancers who may want
to following in her footsteps, “Believe in yourself.
I never thought I’d be an NFL cheerleader, but
now I am. I never thought I’d be in grad school,
but now I am. Anything is possible.” ■
