ayne Township’s
League of
Women Voters
celebrates its
75th anniversary this year as
it continues to work to educate voters, protect their right to vote and
expand voter participation. Formed
from the movement that secured the
right to vote for women, the League
of Women Voters operates at national, state and local levels as a nonpartisan political organization with membership open to men and women.
According to board members Jean
Aires, Alice Moskowitz and Jane
Schweighardt of League of Women
Voters of Wayne, two of their highest
priority issues are increasing voter
turnout and modernizing outdated
election laws. “We know our
members’ and supporters’ voices
carry great weight in voting issues,”
says Moskowitz.
