THE FAMILY THAT READS TOGETHER …
It ’ s common for a lot of primary bedrooms to have a nice-sized bed , built-in bookshelves , and perhaps even matching custom-made window treatments — in this case , Roman shades and curtains with a valance and kick pleat in a hand-painted fabric . But the last room in the home Mazza designed — the “ crown jewel ,” she says — features a unique element customized to the family ’ s needs : a daybed / reading area with similarly-shaped legs that extends 19 feet in lengthand is 42 inches deep . “ Everyone in the family likestoread or be readto , so we wanted to add a soft upholstered area to read together ,” says Mazza . The daybed ’ s green linen and goldenrod piping were drawn , as were the rest of the colors in the room , from the commissioned painting by artist Mary Nelson Sinclair that is centered above the daybed . The flush-mounted light fixture is made of gilded iron and mercury glass to match the sconces .“ I chose oldfashioned elements whenever I could ,” says Mazza . ■
