SEVEN-YEAR-OLD WINS MOVIE POSTER AWARD
When JACK CURRAN learned that Scholastic Publishing was holding a national art contest for students to create posters promoting The Bad Guys , the screen version of their popular book series , he decided to enter — even though he was in first grade , and the competition was for students in grades two to four . “ He draws alot with his dad ,” says his mom , Sarah . “ That ’ s their hobby that they do together .”
His gambit paid off : Jack was one of 10 winners in the United States , and received a $ 150 gift card for his friends and family to see the film . Jack also made sure that everyone in his class got a book .“ Even people I don ’ t play with , Ithrew in abook ,” he says . Now entering second grade at Kiel School , he remains an avid fan of the series , and recommends the latest installment , The Bad Guys in Open Wide and Say Arrrgh !, which came out July 19 . The Bad Guys movie is available for streaming on Peacock .

DAVE ’ SHOT CHICKEN COMING TO NEW JERSEY
DAVE ’ S HOT CHICKEN , aWest Coastbased chain known for its ultra-crispy chicken tenders and sliders − which range in spiciness from “ No Spice ” to “ Reaper ” — announced last year it was set to open 14 new locations in New Jersey . But , we didn ’ t know where , beyond the guidelines of Bergen , Passaic , Essex , Hudson and Union counties .
Now , we know the first location will open in Wayne , according to Nicole Nannola of CBRE Retail , who arranged the lease for the new Dave ’ s with colleague Jay Miller . Nannola reports that the 2,600-squarefoot restaurant will be located in the West Belt Plaza shopping Center at 57 Route 23 , near the Willowbrook Mall . The opening date is projected to be during the winter of2022 .

Now that the NFLpreseason isupon us , the New York Jets are busy competing again . But during the off-season , quarterback ZACH WILSON and wide receiver ELIJAH MOORE used some of their free time tolend tips and techniques to members of the Wayne Valley High Schoolol flag football team . The surprised , and then delighted , young women practiced passing and blocking with their pro coaches , and presumably used what they learned to conclude afun inaugural season with ahard-fought loss toeventual state champion Irvington .

WPU SCIENCE HALL NAMED AFTER BENEFACTORS
A science building on the campus of William Paterson University will forever bear the names of a retired professor and her late husband , who donated their savings for scholarships and student research . Officials at the university renamed the 50-year-old Science Hall East after DOROTHY AND GEORGE HENNINGS to acknowledge their undisclosed gift .
At a ribbon-cutting ceremony in front of the building , Hennings said the dedication will help her to overcome the loss of her husband , who died in September 2016 . He would have turned 100 this past June . With no direct heir and no one to carry on her husband ’ sname , she says , they decided to contribute to higher learning . “ When I see that ,” Hennings says of their names on the 165,000-square-foot building , it “ makes me feel pretty good .”
