AMILESTONE IN LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT
DETECTIVE SGT� COLLEEN CARVER has become the first woman in the history of the North Haledon police department to receive a promotion . “ I see myself asone of the guys ,” says Carver , who is known around headquarters for her poise and humble temperament . “ I ’ m no different than the guys in the past who were promoted to sergeant .”
Carver , who is married and is the mother to twins , was a volleyball standout at Lakeland Regional High School in Wanaque . She attended Juniata College in Huntingdon , Pennsylvania , and was a Division III All- American in her junior and senior years . She says she initially wanted to be aphysical therapist� she had torn her ACL , and this made her consider medicine as a profession . But that changed , she says , when she enrolled in
more college courses in criminal justice . “ I knew that Ididn ’ twant to sit behind adesk ,” she says .

NEW BIKING AND HIKING PATH
Work on a $ 20 million project to convert an abandoned stretch of RAIL- ROAD TRACKS INTO ABICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN PATH connecting Morris and Passaic counties is finally underway , more than a decade after the start of negotiations on the property . This involves lifting up tracks ona4 . �-mile portion ofthe New York Susquehanna �Western Railway between Pequannock and Wayne . The plan , spearheaded by Morris County officials , will repurpose the railroad into a 10-foot-wide recreational path for hikers and non-motorized vehicles . The path begins in Pequannock at River Drive near Route 23 , connects with the township ’ s Aquatic Park and continues south to Mountainview Boulevard in Wayne , near NJ Transit ’ s Mountain View rail station . Eventually , it will tie into the Morris Canal �reenway inPassaic County . The federally funded project is expected to be completed in 2024 .
