DR. WILLIAM MATARESE ALWAYS ENJOYED BUILDING AND FIXING
THINGS, SO ORTHOPEDICS WAS A NATURAL CAREER CHOICE FOR
HIM. HE IS IMPECCABLY TRAINED, HAVING COMPLETED A GENERAL
SURGERY INTERNSHIP AT ALBERT EINSTEIN/ MONTEFIORE MEDICAL
CENTER AND AN ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY RESIDENCY AT ST.
Joseph’s University Medical Center. Dr. Matarese is board-
certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, and is a
Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is
fellowship trained in total joint replacement at NYU Hospital for
Joint Diseases/ NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital.
Dr. Matarese said, “In orthopedics more than in any other area
of medicine, there’s an immediate gratification for the patient and
physician. A person sustains an injury, and we can help them get
back on their feet continuing to do what they love.”
Dr. Matarese’s partner, Dr. Tony Wanich, is a specialist in the
field of sports medicine and an expert in the arthroscopic man-
agement of shoulder, hip and knee injuries. After completing an
orthopedic surgical residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery
in New York, Dr. Wanich received additional specialty training
in sports medicine at the Kerlan Jobe orthopedic clinic in Los
Angeles. He is a team physician for several area teams and works
with athletes at all levels to get them back to the field and to pre-
vent future injuries. Dr. Wanich is also an Assistant Professor at
the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
High Mountain Orthopedics is committed to offering its patients
cutting edge technology and treatment. Dr. Matarese and his
associate are the only two fellowship trained joint replacement
specialists in the area performing Mako robotic-arm assisted
joint replacements. Mako robotic-arm assisted technology uses a
3D virtual model of each person’s unique anatomy and a robotic
arm to help surgeons plan and perform joint replacement surgery.
The practice is fortunate to have a highly trained staff, beloved
by patients, and a physical therapy center directly across the street
from its Wayne Office. Dr. Matarese explained, “The practice’s
physical therapy center allows for a good continuity of care work-
ing hand in hand with the physicians.”
High Mountain Orthopedics treats an extensive range of condi-
tions affecting the spine, neck, knee, shoulder, foot, ankle, elbow,
hand, wrist and hip. Some of the conditions they are expertly
trained to treat include: Achilles ruptures, ACL tears, ankle
sprains, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic back pain,
golfer’s and tennis elbow, hip fractures, meniscus tears, torn rota-
tor cuffs, and osteoarthritis.
