RESTFUL RETREAT
The master bedroom is, in a word, “massive,” says Pluta. The raised
“tray” ceiling extends 4 feet above the top of the 8-foot walls, and
two sets of windows each stretch 9 feet across. Restful lavender and
gray tones warm up the space, from the wallpaper to the custom
Roman shades, whose pattern is a simplified version of the one dis-
played on the wallpaper. The chaise is big enough to fit two people
comfortably. On either side of the bed, his customized nightstand
has doors, and hers has drawers; both have accent inlays and nickel
hardware. The lavender bottles on the chaise-side table have nickel
bases. The carpet, bedspread and chaise pillow share a tranquil, wavy
pattern. (Top to bottom) The pinch-pleated window curtain panels are
hung on nickel rods capped by crystal finials. Pluta says that she likes
to add an “organic feature” to rooms, and that the orchids contribute
an “architectural” element. The bedding was designed and created by
White House Living, including the three velvet-striped pillows and silk
grand sham. ■
